Description

The ATA WPE-2V1 Wireless Safety Beam Kit is a genuine photoelectric safety system designed specifically for compatible ATA GDO-12 garage door operators.

The system creates an invisible infrared beam across the garage door opening to provide non-contact obstruction detection. If a vehicle, person, pet or other object interrupts the beam while the garage door is closing, the connected operator can respond by stopping or reversing the door.

Designed exclusively for the GDO-12 series, the WPE-2V1 provides a purpose-designed wireless safety solution for adding additional obstruction protection without the extensive wiring associated with traditional photoelectric safety beams.

👁️ Additional Garage Door Safety

The WPE-2V1 provides an additional layer of protection around an automatic garage door.

The photoelectric sensors are positioned opposite each other near floor level, creating an invisible infrared beam across the garage door opening.

If an obstruction interrupts this beam while the door is closing, the safety system communicates with the compatible GDO-12 operator so it can respond appropriately.

This helps provide additional protection for:

  • Vehicles
  • People
  • Children
  • Pets
  • Bicycles
  • Equipment
  • Stored items
  • Other objects within the garage door opening

🛑 Non-Contact Obstruction Detection

One of the major advantages of photoelectric safety beams is their ability to detect an obstruction before the garage door physically makes contact with it.

Force-based obstruction detection generally relies on the garage door operator detecting unexpected resistance during movement.

The WPE-2V1 instead monitors the garage door opening using an infrared beam.

If the beam is interrupted, the operator can receive a safety signal before the closing garage door reaches the obstruction.

This provides an important additional level of protection for the complete garage door automation system.

📡 Wireless Safety Beam Technology

The WPE-2V1 uses wireless technology to simplify the installation of photoelectric safety protection.

Rather than requiring conventional safety beam wiring to be installed around the garage door opening, the wireless system reduces the amount of cabling required between the safety components and garage door operator.

Benefits include:

  • Reduced installation wiring
  • Cleaner finished installation
  • Less visible cabling and conduit
  • Easier installation on existing garage doors
  • Greater flexibility when positioning the safety beams
  • Ideal for retrofit installations
  • Purpose-designed integration with compatible GDO-12 operators

🔋 Battery-Powered Wireless Design

The wireless beam design is particularly useful where safety beams are being added to an existing garage door installation.

Running new cables around a completed garage can often require additional conduit or other building work.

The WPE-2V1 provides a cleaner solution by using wireless safety beam technology, making it an excellent upgrade for compatible GDO-12 installations.

🚗 Helps Protect Vehicles

Vehicles are one of the most common reasons for installing photoelectric safety beams.

A vehicle may occasionally remain partially within the garage door opening while manoeuvring, loading or unloading.

If the garage door begins closing while the vehicle is interrupting the safety beam, the WPE-2V1 can signal the compatible operator so the closing cycle can be stopped or reversed.

This provides additional protection before the garage door physically reaches the vehicle.

🐕 Additional Protection for Children & Pets

Photoelectric safety beams are also particularly useful in homes where children or pets regularly move through the garage door opening.

Because the infrared beam monitors the doorway close to floor level, it can detect many obstructions that may otherwise be difficult for someone operating the garage door to see.

This makes the WPE-2V1 a valuable safety addition to frequently used residential garage doors.

🔄 Auto-Close Applications

Photoelectric safety beams are particularly important where compatible automatic closing functionality is being used.

Auto-Close allows a garage door to automatically close after a programmed period rather than requiring the user to manually activate the close command.

Because the garage door may begin moving automatically, the safety beam provides an additional method of monitoring the doorway for obstructions.

If the beam is interrupted, the GDO-12 operator can respond according to its programmed safety configuration.

📱 Remote & Smart Operation

Safety beams can also provide an important additional layer of protection where compatible remote or smart-control functionality is used.

Remote operation can allow a garage door to be activated when the user may not have direct line-of-sight to the complete garage door opening.

Photoelectric safety beams provide additional obstruction detection at the doorway and can form an important part of a correctly configured automatic garage door system.

🏠 Ideal for Existing GDO-12 Installations

The WPE-2V1 is an ideal upgrade for existing compatible GDO-12 garage door operators where additional photoelectric safety protection is required.

The wireless design makes it particularly useful for retrofit installations where conventional safety beam wiring was not installed when the garage door opener was originally fitted.

This makes the kit ideal for:

  • Existing GDO-12 installations
  • Existing GDO-12V2 installations
  • Safety upgrades
  • Auto-Close applications
  • Compatible remote-control applications
  • Garage doors where additional wiring is difficult
  • Installations where exposed conduit is undesirable

🆕 Suitable for New Installations

The WPE-2V1 can also be installed alongside a new compatible GDO-12 garage door operator.

Installing photoelectric safety beams at the same time as the opener allows the complete garage door automation system to be commissioned with additional non-contact obstruction detection from the outset.

The wireless design also helps simplify installation and provides a neat finished appearance around the garage door opening.

💡 Correct Alignment is Essential

Photoelectric safety beams rely on correct positioning and alignment.

The sensors must be securely mounted opposite each other so that the infrared beam can travel unobstructed across the garage door opening.

During commissioning, the installer should confirm correct alignment and test the system by interrupting the beam while the door is operating.

The garage door operator should respond according to its programmed safety function.

🧹 Simple Ongoing Maintenance

Once correctly installed, the WPE-2V1 requires relatively little routine maintenance.

The safety beam lenses should be periodically inspected and cleaned to prevent dust, dirt, insects or other debris from interfering with the infrared signal.

Routine maintenance should include:

  • Cleaning the safety beam lenses
  • Checking sensor alignment
  • Inspecting the mounting brackets
  • Checking battery condition
  • Testing obstruction detection
  • Confirming correct garage door operator response

Regular testing helps ensure the safety beam system continues to operate correctly.

🔧 Genuine ATA Safety Accessory

The WPE-2V1 is a genuine Automatic Technology Australia safety accessory designed specifically for the compatible ATA GDO-12 platform.

Using the correct ATA safety beam system ensures that the wireless safety components are designed to integrate with the intended garage door operator.

This provides a purpose-designed solution for adding photoelectric obstruction detection rather than relying on a generic aftermarket safety interface.

🔗 Dedicated GDO-12 Compatibility

Unlike other ATA wireless safety beam kits that support a broader range of garage door and gate operators, the WPE-2V1 is specifically intended for the GDO-12 platform.

This makes identifying the correct application particularly important.

The WPE-2V1 is compatible only with:

  • ATA GDO-12
  • ATA GDO-12V2

It should not be selected for other ATA or B&D operators unless specifically confirmed as compatible.

ATA Garage Door Operators

  • ATA GDO-12
  • ATA GDO-12V2

The WPE-2V1 is specifically designed for these operator models and should not be confused with the WPE-1V1 or WPE-3V2 Wireless Safety Beam Kits used with other generations of ATA and B&D garage door operators.

⚠️ Please Note

The WPE-2V1 is compatible only with the ATA GDO-12 and GDO-12V2 garage door operators.

ATA and B&D have produced several generations of wireless photoelectric safety beam systems. The WPE-1V1, WPE-2V1 and WPE-3V2 are not interchangeable across all operator models.

Please check the exact model number of your garage door operator before ordering.

The WPE-2V1 must be correctly installed, aligned and tested before use. The system should also be tested periodically to confirm that interrupting the infrared beam causes the garage door operator to respond correctly.

Safety beams do not replace the requirement for a correctly balanced, mechanically sound and properly maintained garage door.
