These ratings are based on a standard test gate measuring approximately 900mm wide x 1200mm high.
Gate dimensions beyond the standard test size can significantly affect the effective hinge capacity due to the increased leverage applied to the hinge and supporting post.
The 480kg holding capacity should not be confused with the 85kg closing capacity. For a self-closing installation, the gate must remain within the appropriate closing capacity.
When adjusting the self-closing tension, Safetech recommends increasing the tension only one click per hinge at a time and testing the gate after each adjustment.
A maximum of four tension clicks per hinge is permitted.
Where possible, aim for approximately equal tension between the upper and lower hinges.
For pool-gate installations, Safetech specifies a minimum distance of 900mm between the tops of the hinges. If this cannot be achieved, the supplied safety cone must be fitted to the bottom hinge.
