Description
The BEA LZR®-I110 is an advanced laser scanner designed to provide high-performance safety and presence detection around industrial doors, automatic gates and other automated access systems.
Using highly accurate time-of-flight laser technology and four laser curtains, the LZR-I110 creates a three-dimensional detection field capable of monitoring the area around a moving door or gate.
The 5m × 5m LZR-I110 is particularly suited to applications requiring a large configurable safety zone where conventional photocells only provide a single detection beam.
With two independent detection fields, fast response time, small-object detection, IP65 protection and safety certification to EN 12453 Type E, the LZR-I110 provides a sophisticated safety solution for demanding automatic door and gate installations.
🔴 Advanced Laser Safety Scanner
The LZR-I110 uses laser time-of-flight measurement to detect objects within a defined area.
Rather than monitoring only a single line between a transmitter and receiver, the scanner monitors a complete detection field.
This provides considerably broader coverage around the automated opening.
Typical applications include:
- Industrial doors
- Automatic gates
- Sliding gates
- Swing gates
- Commercial entrances
- Warehouse doors
- Loading areas
- Large automated access points
📐 5m × 5m Detection Area
The LZR-I110 provides a maximum detection range of:
- 5m × 5m
This large detection area allows a single scanner to monitor a substantial zone around an automatic gate or industrial door.
The detection field can be adjusted during commissioning to suit the dimensions and geometry of the installation.
The field does not need to remain a simple rectangular 5m × 5m area. During the teach-in process, the scanner learns the surrounding environment and adapts the detection field accordingly.
⚠️ LZR-I110 is the 5m × 5m Version
The LZR-I100 and LZR-I110 use the same core laser scanning technology but provide different maximum detection ranges.
The models are:
- LZR-I110 – maximum detection range 5m × 5m
- LZR-I100 – maximum detection range 9.9m × 9.9m
The 5m × 5m version described here is therefore the LZR-I110.
🟢 Four Laser Curtains
The LZR-I110 uses four laser curtains to create its detection zones.
These multiple scanning planes provide three-dimensional presence detection around the automatic door or gate.
The four curtains allow the scanner to monitor a much larger area than conventional single-beam safety photocells.
This can provide detection:
- In front of the gate
- Around the gate closing area
- Within configured safety zones
- Across larger vehicle and pedestrian areas
🛡️ Three-Dimensional Safety Detection
One of the major advantages of the LZR-I110 is its ability to provide three-dimensional presence detection.
Conventional photocells typically protect only the narrow line between the transmitter and receiver.
The LZR-I110 instead monitors an entire configurable area.
This allows the system to detect objects that may not interrupt a conventional photocell beam.
The scanner can therefore provide considerably more comprehensive monitoring of the hazardous area around a moving gate or industrial door.
🚶 Small Object Detection
The high angular resolution of the laser scanner allows relatively small objects to be detected within the monitored area.
Typical minimum object detection capability is approximately:
- 2.1cm at 3m
- 3.5cm at 5m
Object detection capability varies according to the distance from the scanner.
This high level of detection resolution makes the LZR-I110 suitable for demanding safety applications.
📡 Time-of-Flight Technology
The LZR-I110 operates using laser time-of-flight measurement.
The scanner emits laser signals and measures the time required for the reflected signal to return.
From this information, the sensor determines the distance between itself and surrounding objects.
By continuously scanning the detection area, the sensor can recognise when a new object enters the monitored zone.
🚪 Industrial Door Safety
The LZR-I110 has been specifically developed for industrial door safety applications.
It can monitor the hazardous area around the door and provide a safety signal when a person, vehicle or other object enters the configured detection field.
Typical industrial applications include:
- Sectional overhead doors
- Industrial sliding doors
- Large automatic doors
- Warehouse entrances
- Loading dock doors
- Commercial vehicle entrances
🚧 Automatic Gate Safety
The LZR-I110 can also be incorporated into suitable automatic gate safety systems.
Its large configurable detection field makes it particularly useful where conventional point-to-point photocells cannot provide sufficient area coverage.
Potential applications include:
- Sliding gates
- Swing gates
- Commercial gates
- Industrial gates
- Large vehicle entrances
- High-risk movement areas
The scanner must be positioned and configured according to the movement and hazards associated with the particular gate.
2️⃣ Two Independent Detection Fields
The LZR-I110 provides two independent detection fields.
This allows separate areas around the automatic door or gate to be monitored.
The two fields can be configured to perform different functions according to the requirements of the installation.
This can be useful for:
- Separate safety zones
- Door opening and closing areas
- Approach detection
- Different gate movement zones
Each detection field can be connected to the appropriate input on the automation controller.
🔌 Two Electronic Relay Outputs
The LZR-I110 provides two electronic relay outputs.
The outputs are:
- Galvanically isolated
- Polarity free
Maximum switching specifications are:
- 35V DC
- 24V AC
- 80mA resistive load
These outputs allow the scanner to interface with compatible industrial door, gate and access control equipment.
⚡ 10–35V DC Power Supply
The LZR-I110 operates from a 10–35V DC supply at the sensor.
This wide low-voltage operating range allows the scanner to be integrated with many different automation control systems.
Power consumption is less than 5W.
The available accessory voltage and current capacity of the connected controller should always be confirmed before installation.
⚡ Fast Detection Response
The LZR-I110 provides a very fast response to objects entering the detection field.
Typical response time is approximately:
- 20ms typical
- 80ms maximum
Fast detection is particularly important in safety applications where the automation controller must react quickly when an obstruction enters the protected area.
🧠 Intelligent Environment Teach-In
The LZR-I110 incorporates an environment teach-in procedure.
During teach-in, the scanner learns its surroundings and adapts the detection field to the installation environment.
Stationary objects within the scanning area can be learned and excluded from the active detection field.
This allows the scanner to accommodate permanent site features such as:
- Walls
- Posts
- Structural elements
- Door frames
- Fixed equipment
- Building features
Once the environment has been learned, the required detection field can be further configured.
📏 Adjustable Detection Field
After the teach-in process, the detection field dimensions can be reduced according to the requirements of the installation.
For the LZR-I110, the maximum field is 5m × 5m.
The configured field cannot exceed the area established during the teach-in process.
This provides considerable flexibility when protecting irregularly shaped areas around industrial doors and gates.
🎯 Accurate Field Configuration
The scanner can be configured to monitor only the required area.
This helps prevent unnecessary detection outside the intended safety zone.
Accurate field configuration is particularly important where:
- Pedestrian traffic passes nearby
- Vehicles travel beside the gate
- Another door is located nearby
- Fixed equipment is within the scanner’s view
- Only a specific hazardous area requires monitoring
🔴 Visible Alignment Lasers
The LZR-I110 incorporates visible red laser beams that can be used during installation and alignment.
These visible lasers assist the installer with positioning the scanner correctly relative to the required detection area.
During normal operation, the safety detection is performed using the infrared laser scanning system.
The visible alignment lasers are intended for commissioning and adjustment.
💡 LED Status Indicators
The scanner incorporates multiple LED indicators to provide immediate information about system operation.
Indicators include:
- Blue LED for power status
- Orange LED for error status
