💪 Suitable for Sliding Gates up to 500kg

The FAAC 740 is designed to automate correctly installed sliding gates weighing up to 500kg.

This makes it well suited to many residential sliding driveway gates including:

  • Aluminium sliding gates
  • Steel sliding gates
  • Slat gates
  • Picket gates
  • Open-style sliding gates
  • Residential driveway gates
  • Custom fabricated sliding gates

Gate weight alone should not be used to determine operator suitability. The gate must roll freely throughout its entire travel and the track, wheels and guide system must be correctly installed and maintained.

🚀 12 Metres per Minute Gate Speed

The FAAC 740 operates the gate at up to 12 metres per minute using its Z16 Module 4 drive pinion.

This provides efficient opening and closing for residential driveway entrances while maintaining controlled gate movement.

Actual opening time will depend on the total travel distance of the gate.

For example, a gate travelling approximately 4 metres can complete the main travel portion in approximately 20 seconds, excluding any programmed slowdown or control sequence.

⚙️ Integrated 740D Control Board

The FAAC 740 incorporates its electronic control board directly inside the operator housing.

This eliminates the need for a separate external control enclosure in a standard installation and provides convenient access to the system programming and connections.

The 740D control system provides extensive programming options for configuring the automation according to the installation.

Available functions include:

  • Automatic or semi-automatic operation
  • Adjustable operating force
  • Partial opening
  • Pedestrian access
  • Opening and closing slowdown
  • Safety device inputs
  • Photocell management
  • Radio receiver integration
  • Automatic closing
  • Programmable operating logic

This allows the gate automation to be configured according to the access requirements of the property.

🧠 Integrated Optical Encoder

The FAAC 740 incorporates an optical encoder that continuously monitors the movement of the operator.

The encoder provides the control board with information about gate movement and assists with the management of operating force and obstacle detection.

If an unexpected obstruction is detected during operation, the control system can respond by reversing gate movement according to the programmed operating logic.

The encoder also assists the control board in accurately managing slowdown during gate movement.

🛡️ Electronic Obstacle Detection

The combination of the integrated encoder and electronic control board provides anti-crushing functionality and obstacle detection.

If the gate encounters unexpected resistance during operation, the control system can respond according to its programmed safety settings.

Electronic obstacle detection should be used together with correctly installed external safety devices where required.

The gate itself must also roll freely and must not contain mechanical resistance that could interfere with the operator’s force monitoring.

🧲 Magnetic Limit Switches

The FAAC 740 uses magnetic limit switches to determine the fully open and fully closed positions of the sliding gate.

Magnets positioned on the gate rack activate the operator’s limit switch system as the gate approaches the end of travel.

Magnetic limit switching provides reliable position detection without requiring mechanical limit switch levers to physically contact the gate.

Correct positioning of the limit magnets is essential during commissioning.

🦷 4 Metres of Strengthened Nylon Racking

The Delta 2 – 740 Kit includes four 1-metre lengths of strengthened nylon gate rack, providing a total of 4 metres of racking.

The rack mounts along the sliding gate and engages with the operator’s Z16 Module 4 pinion.

As the operator turns the pinion, the rack converts the rotational movement of the motor and gearbox into linear movement of the gate.

The strengthened nylon construction provides:

  • Quiet operation
  • Smooth engagement with the drive pinion
  • Corrosion resistance
  • Reduced operating noise
  • Suitable strength for compatible residential sliding gates
  • Simple modular installation

Additional rack can be added separately where the gate requires more than the included 4 metres.

📏 Up to 15 Metre Gate Leaf

FAAC specifies the 740 for sliding gate leaves up to 15 metres wide, subject to the maximum gate weight and installation requirements.

For most residential installations, the required gate travel will be considerably shorter.

Where the gate requires more than the included 4 metres of rack, additional compatible racking will be required.

Gate length, weight, rolling resistance, installation quality and usage frequency should all be considered when selecting an operator.

📡 FAAC Receiver Included

The Delta 2 – 740 Kit includes a compatible FAAC radio receiver.

The receiver interfaces with the 740 control system and receives coded commands from the compatible FAAC transmitters.

The radio system allows the gate to be conveniently opened from a vehicle or other suitable location without requiring physical access to a switch or keypad.

Additional compatible transmitters can be programmed to the receiver where more users require access.

🎛️ Two FAAC Transmitters Included

Two compatible FAAC remote transmitters are included with the kit.

This provides remote access for two users or vehicles immediately after the system has been installed, programmed and commissioned.

Additional compatible transmitters can be added separately if required for:

  • Additional vehicles
  • Family members
  • Employees
  • Property managers
  • Authorised visitors
  • Spare remote controls

🚶 Partial Opening / Pedestrian Access

The FAAC 740 control system can provide partial opening functionality.

Rather than opening the gate through its entire programmed travel, a partial opening command can move the gate only far enough to provide pedestrian access.

This is particularly useful where the sliding driveway gate is also regularly used as the pedestrian entrance to the property.

The required partial opening distance can be configured during system setup.

🔄 Opening & Closing Slowdown

The integrated electronic control system and encoder allow the FAAC 740 to manage slowdown near the end of gate travel.

Rather than travelling at full operating speed directly into the final stopping position, the gate can reduce speed as it approaches the end of travel.

Controlled slowdown provides smoother gate movement and reduces mechanical shock on:

  • Gate wheels
  • Gate rack
  • Operator pinion
  • Gate stops
  • Gate frame
  • Guide rollers
  • Operator mounting system

🔒 Self-Locking Gearbox

The FAAC 740 incorporates a self-locking reduction gearbox.

When the operator is stationary, the gearbox mechanically resists movement of the sliding gate.

This means an additional electric gate lock is generally not required for normal compatible residential sliding gate applications.

The gate installation and security requirements should still be assessed individually where additional physical locking is required.

🔑 Manual Release System

The FAAC 740 incorporates a manual release mechanism allowing the gate to be disengaged from the operator when required.

If mains power is unavailable or the automation requires servicing, the operator can be manually released so the sliding gate can be moved by hand.

The operator can then be re-engaged when automatic operation is restored.

The gate must remain capable of smooth manual movement throughout its entire travel.

🧱 Foundation Plate Included

The kit includes the correct FAAC foundation plate for mounting the 740 operator.

The foundation plate provides the secure mounting interface between the operator and the concrete foundation.

Correct positioning of the foundation plate is critical to ensure:

  • Correct operator height
  • Correct pinion-to-rack engagement
  • Proper gate alignment
  • Secure operator mounting
  • Sufficient adjustment during installation

The foundation and mounting arrangement must be capable of supporting the forces generated by the gate operator.

🌧️ Designed for Outdoor Installation

The FAAC 740 is specifically designed for external sliding gate automation.

The operator has an IP44 protection rating and is specified for operation in ambient temperatures from -20°C to +55°C.

Correct installation remains essential to prevent water accumulation around the operator and to protect electrical connections and incoming power cabling.

🏡 Ideal for Residential Sliding Gates

The FAAC Delta 2 – 740 Kit provides an excellent solution for residential sliding gate automation.

Typical applications include:

  • Residential driveway gates
  • Aluminium sliding gates
  • Steel sliding gates
  • Open-style sliding gates
  • Slatted driveway gates
  • Existing manual gate upgrades
  • New automated gate installations

The combination of the FAAC 740 operator, strengthened nylon racking, receiver and two transmitters provides the main automation components in one convenient package.

🛠️ Gate Condition Is Important

A sliding gate operator should never be used to compensate for a poorly operating gate.

Before automation is installed, the sliding gate should:

  • Roll freely throughout its entire travel
  • Have correctly aligned wheels
  • Have a straight and correctly installed track
  • Have correctly positioned guide rollers
  • Have no excessive lateral movement
  • Have suitable physical end stops
  • Be structurally sound
  • Be free from excessive mechanical resistance

A correctly installed sliding gate should be capable of being moved manually without excessive force.

Excessive rolling resistance increases the load placed on the operator and can interfere with electronic obstacle detection.
