Description

The ATA Battery Back Up Kit – ATS/SDO is a genuine battery backup system designed for compatible ATA ATS and B&D SDO sectional garage door operators.

Designed to maintain automatic garage door operation during a mains power failure, the Battery Back Up Kit automatically takes over when mains electricity is lost, allowing the garage door opener to continue operating from battery power.

When mains power is restored, the system automatically returns to normal operation and recharges the batteries, keeping the backup system ready for the next power outage.

🔋 Automatic Battery Backup

The Battery Back Up Kit provides an alternative power source for your compatible garage door operator when normal mains electricity is unavailable.

If mains power is interrupted, the battery backup system automatically supplies power to the opener.

There is no need to manually switch the operator over to battery mode.

This provides continued automatic operation during:

  • Unexpected blackouts
  • Scheduled power outages
  • Electrical interruptions
  • Storm-related outages
  • Emergency situations
  • Temporary mains power failures

Once mains power returns, the garage door operator automatically resumes normal mains-powered operation.

⚡ Seamless Changeover During a Power Failure

One of the key advantages of the ATA Battery Back Up system is its automatic changeover.

If mains power is lost while the garage door is being operated, the battery system can take over and allow the operator to continue functioning. ATA describes the system as taking over as soon as mains power drops out, including if the door is already moving at the time.

This means the garage door does not need to be manually disengaged simply because there has been a temporary power failure.

🚪 Keep Your Garage Door Operational

A power outage can be particularly inconvenient when the garage door is the primary vehicle entrance to the property.

Without battery backup, an automatic garage door may need to be manually disengaged and operated by hand until mains power is restored.

The Battery Back Up Kit allows the compatible opener to continue providing automatic operation, helping maintain convenient vehicle access during an outage.

🏠 Ideal for Homes Without Alternative Garage Access

Battery backup can be particularly valuable where there is no convenient secondary entrance into the garage.

If the garage door is the main access point, maintaining automatic operation during a blackout can make entering and leaving the property considerably easier.

The kit is particularly useful for:

  • Garages without a separate access door
  • Homes where the garage is the primary vehicle entrance
  • Properties that experience regular power interruptions
  • Automatic doors that are difficult to operate manually
  • Customers wanting additional backup protection

🔄 Automatically Recharges

The Battery Back Up Kit is designed as a rechargeable system.

During normal operation, mains power supplies the garage door opener and maintains the battery backup system.

After the batteries have been used during a power outage, the charging system automatically recharges them once mains electricity is restored.

There is no need to remove the batteries and recharge them separately.

🛡️ Battery Discharge Protection

The battery backup system incorporates protection designed to help prevent damaging total discharge of the batteries.

This protects the battery system from being excessively discharged during an extended power failure.

The number of operations available during an outage will depend on factors including:

  • Battery condition
  • Battery charge level
  • Garage door size
  • Garage door balance
  • Door weight
  • Frequency of operation
  • Temperature
  • Age of the batteries

Battery backup should therefore be considered an emergency power source rather than a replacement for normal mains electricity.

🔌 Integrated With the Garage Door Opener

The ATS/SDO Battery Back Up Kit is designed specifically to integrate with compatible ATA and B&D sectional garage door operators.

Once installed, the system becomes part of the garage door opener rather than requiring a separate external power supply to be manually connected during a blackout.

This provides a neat and purpose-designed installation.

🔋 Dual 12V Battery System

The ATS/SDO Battery Back Up Kit uses two rechargeable 12V 1.3Ah batteries.

The batteries are connected together as part of the backup system and provide the reserve power required by the compatible garage door operator when mains electricity is unavailable.

The kit is designed around the electrical requirements of the compatible ATS and SDO operator range.

🏡 Ideal for Existing Installations

The Battery Back Up Kit can be added to a compatible existing ATA or B&D sectional garage door opener.

This makes it an ideal upgrade for customers who originally installed their garage door opener without battery backup but now want continued automatic operation during power failures.

There is no need to replace the complete compatible garage door operator simply to add battery backup functionality.

🆕 Suitable for New Installations

The Battery Back Up Kit can also be installed when fitting a new compatible ATA or B&D garage door operator.

Installing battery backup at the same time as the opener provides emergency power capability from the beginning and ensures the system is ready should mains power be interrupted.

This is particularly worthwhile for properties where reliable garage access is important.

🔓 Reduces the Need for Manual Disengagement

Compatible ATA and B&D garage door operators provide a manual disengagement system so the door can be operated manually during a power failure.

However, manually disengaging a garage door is not always convenient.

With a correctly charged Battery Back Up Kit installed, the opener can continue to provide powered operation during many temporary outages.

Manual disengagement remains available if required.

⚖️ Correct Door Balance Remains Important

Battery backup does not compensate for a poorly balanced or mechanically defective garage door.

A sectional garage door should be correctly spring balanced so the operator only needs to provide the force required to move the door rather than lift its complete dead weight.

This becomes particularly important when operating from battery power.

The garage door should:

  • Move smoothly throughout its travel
  • Be correctly spring balanced
  • Have correctly aligned tracks
  • Have freely moving rollers
  • Not bind during operation
  • Be capable of safe manual operation
  • Be regularly serviced and maintained

A heavy or incorrectly balanced garage door can place unnecessary load on both the opener and battery backup system.

⚠️ Please Note

This Battery Back Up Kit is intended for the compatible ATS and SDO operator models listed above.

ATA and B&D have produced different battery backup systems for different generations of garage door openers. Older GDO, RDO and SDO operators can use different battery packs, charger boards and wiring connections, so compatibility should not be determined by appearance alone.

Battery capacity and the number of door operations available during a power failure will vary according to the condition and charge level of the batteries, garage door balance, door size and operating conditions.

Rechargeable batteries are consumable components and will gradually lose capacity as they age.

The garage door must remain correctly balanced and mechanically sound for reliable operation on both mains and battery power.

Please confirm the model number of your garage door operator before ordering.
