Description

The FAAC SAFE&GREEN Retrofit Kit is designed to modernise compatible existing 230V swing gate automation systems by upgrading the control electronics and adding FAAC SAFEcoder absolute magnetic encoder technology.

Rather than replacing an otherwise serviceable pair of gate operators, the SAFE&GREEN Retrofit Kit allows compatible existing electromechanical or hydraulic swing gate automation to be upgraded with the E145S control system and encoder-based gate movement monitoring.

FAAC Part Number: 390113

♻️ Upgrade Existing 230V Gate Automation

The SAFE&GREEN Retrofit Kit has been specifically developed for upgrading existing 230V swing gate automation installations.

It provides a practical solution where the existing gate operators remain serviceable but the control system needs to be modernised.

This can allow existing automation equipment to be retained while upgrading important electronic control and monitoring components.

🧠 E145S Control Board

The kit includes the FAAC E145S electronic control board.

FAAC Part Number:

  • 790076

The E145S provides the central control system for the upgraded swing gate automation.

It manages the connected gate operators together with compatible safety, control and encoder equipment.

🎯 2 × SAFEcoder Encoders Included

The SAFE&GREEN Retrofit Kit includes two FAAC SAFEcoder units.

FAAC Part Number:

  • 404040

Quantity:

  • 2 × SAFEcoder

The SAFEcoder is a BUS magnetic absolute encoder designed to provide the control board with accurate information about gate movement and position.

Two encoders are included to support a compatible double swing gate automation system.

🧲 Magnetic Absolute Encoder Technology

The SAFEcoder uses magnetic absolute encoder technology.

Rather than relying only on operating time to determine gate movement, encoder feedback allows the compatible control system to monitor the movement and position of the gate leaves.

This provides the E145S with additional information about what the gate is actually doing during operation.

🔗 BUS Communication

The SAFEcoder units communicate with the compatible FAAC control system through the BUS system.

This allows the encoder information to be integrated directly into the gate controller.

The resulting system combines the existing 230V gate operators with modern FAAC control and feedback technology.

🛡️ SAFE&GREEN Upgrade

The SAFE&GREEN concept combines an upgraded control system with SAFEcoder encoder feedback.

The retrofit approach is designed to bring additional control and safety functionality to compatible existing FAAC 230V automation installations without necessarily replacing the complete gate operator system.

This can be particularly useful where the existing hydraulic or electromechanical operators remain mechanically sound.

⚙️ Electromechanical Operator Applications

FAAC specifies the SAFE&GREEN Retrofit Kit for compatible existing 230V electromechanical swing gate automation.

This allows selected older installations to be upgraded while retaining their existing operators.

Compatibility must be confirmed before ordering because the kit is not suitable for every FAAC 230V operator.

💧 Hydraulic Operator Applications

The retrofit kit is also designed for compatible FAAC hydraulic swing gate automation.

FAAC hydraulic operators are commonly found on established residential, commercial and higher-frequency swing gate installations.

Where the operators remain serviceable, upgrading the control electronics can provide an alternative to replacing the complete automation system.

🚪 Designed for Swing Gates

The SAFE&GREEN Retrofit Kit is specifically intended for external swing gate automation.

Typical applications can include:

  • Residential driveway gates
  • Double swing gates
  • Commercial swing gates
  • Existing FAAC hydraulic gate automation
  • Existing FAAC electromechanical gate automation
  • Gate systems requiring a control-board upgrade

The suitability of the retrofit depends on the existing operators and overall gate installation.

🔧 Ideal for Automation Refurbishment

The SAFE&GREEN Retrofit Kit is particularly useful when refurbishing an older gate automation system.

Instead of automatically replacing the complete installation, a technician can assess the condition of the existing:

  • Gate operators
  • Mounting brackets
  • Gate hinges
  • Mechanical stops
  • Electrical cabling
  • Safety equipment

Where the existing operators remain suitable, the control and encoder system can then be upgraded using the SAFE&GREEN kit.

💰 Retain Serviceable Operators

Heavy-duty FAAC gate operators can remain mechanically serviceable for many years.

Where the motors or hydraulic operators remain in good condition, replacing only the control and feedback system can be a practical way of modernising the installation.

This can reduce the amount of existing equipment that needs to be replaced.

🚫 Excluded FAAC Operators

The SAFE&GREEN Retrofit Kit 390113 is not universally compatible with every FAAC 230V swing gate operator.

FAAC specifically excludes the following models:

  • FAAC 390
  • FAAC 412
  • FAAC 770N

The retrofit kit should not be selected for these operators.

Compatibility with the existing automation should always be confirmed before ordering.

🔍 Identify the Existing Operators

Before purchasing the SAFE&GREEN Retrofit Kit, identify the exact model of the existing FAAC operators.

Do not determine compatibility solely from the appearance of the motor.

The model identification should be checked against the operator label, existing documentation or other reliable identification information.

This is particularly important on older installations where several generations of FAAC automation equipment may appear visually similar.

🛠️ Professional Retrofit Solution

The SAFE&GREEN kit is intended as a professional automation upgrade rather than a simple plug-in accessory.

Installation involves integrating:

  • Existing 230V gate operators
  • E145S control board
  • Two SAFEcoder encoders
  • Existing or replacement safety devices
  • Access-control equipment
  • Gate movement and mechanical stops

The complete system must then be correctly configured and commissioned.

🚧 Check the Gate Mechanically

Upgrading the electronics will not correct mechanical problems with the gate itself.

Before carrying out the retrofit, the gate should be checked to ensure:

  • Both leaves move freely
  • Hinges are in good condition
  • Gate leaves do not drag
  • Mechanical stops are secure
  • Existing operators are mechanically serviceable
  • Mounting brackets are secure
  • There is no excessive gate movement or flex
  • Operator geometry remains correct

Any mechanical faults should be corrected before commissioning the upgraded automation system.

🛡️ Review Existing Safety Equipment

A retrofit is also an opportunity to review the safety equipment fitted to an older automatic gate installation.

Depending on the site and risk assessment, this may include checking or upgrading:

  • Safety photocells
  • Safety edges
  • Presence detection
  • Warning devices
  • Emergency controls
  • Manual release arrangements

The safety requirements should be assessed for the complete installation rather than assuming the original equipment remains appropriate.

🔌 Existing 230V Automation

The SAFE&GREEN Retrofit Kit is specifically designed for compatible existing 230V automation.

It is not intended as a conversion kit for arbitrary 24V operators.

The existing operator type and electrical configuration must be checked before installation.
