Description

The FAAC XP20B D LC – Part No. 785120 is a genuine FAAC pair of adjustable infrared safety photocells designed for automatic gates, barriers and compatible access automation systems equipped with FAAC BUS 2easy technology.

Using FAAC’s two-wire BUS 2easy connection, the XP20B D LC simplifies installation by carrying power and communication over just two non-polarised wires. The transmitter and receiver provide an infrared safety beam across the opening, allowing the automation system to detect when a vehicle, person or other obstruction enters the protected area. FAAC lists the XP20B within its current BUS 2easy accessory range.

🛡️ Infrared Safety Protection

The XP20B D LC consists of a matched transmitter and receiver positioned on opposite sides of the gate or automated opening.

An infrared beam is transmitted continuously between the two photocells. When an object interrupts the beam, the control board receives the corresponding safety command and responds according to the photocell’s programmed function.

Depending on the control board configuration, the photocells can be assigned to protect:

  • Gate closing movement
  • Gate opening movement
  • Opening and closing movement
  • Other supported BUS 2easy functions

The exact response is determined by the BUS address and programming of the compatible FAAC control board.

🔌 FAAC BUS 2easy Two-Wire Connection

One of the major advantages of the XP20B D LC is FAAC’s BUS 2easy connection system.

Only two wires are required, and the connection is non-polarised. This means there is no positive and negative polarity that needs to be maintained when connecting the photocells to the BUS 2easy line.

This can significantly simplify installation compared with conventional photocells requiring separate power and relay wiring.

FAAC specifies the XP20B system as:

  • BUS 2easy connection
  • Two-wire installation
  • 24V BUS supply
  • Non-polarised wiring
  • Communication directly with compatible FAAC control boards

📡 Up to 20 Metre Operating Range

The XP20B D LC provides a maximum infrared operating distance of up to 20 metres between the transmitter and receiver.

This makes the photocells suitable for a wide variety of residential, commercial and industrial access applications, including:

  • Sliding gates
  • Swing gates
  • Automatic barriers
  • Commercial entrances
  • Wide driveway openings
  • Automatic access systems

Correct alignment and installation conditions are required to achieve reliable operation at longer distances.

🔄 Adjustable 180° Horizontal Orientation

The XP20B D LC features a rotating internal optical assembly allowing the beam direction to be adjusted through a wide horizontal range.

The photocells provide adjustment from -90° to +90°, giving a total horizontal adjustment range of 180°.

This is particularly useful where the photocells cannot be mounted perfectly opposite one another.

The adjustable design makes the XP20B D LC suitable for installations involving:

  • Angled gate posts
  • Offset mounting locations
  • Uneven driveway entrances
  • Existing mounting positions
  • Difficult gate geometries

🎯 Vertical Self-Alignment

In addition to the adjustable horizontal orientation, the XP20B D LC provides vertical self-alignment capability.

FAAC specifies:

  • ±7° self-alignment at 20 metres
  • ±13.5° self-alignment at 5 metres

This provides additional tolerance during installation and helps establish reliable communication between the transmitter and receiver.

☀️ Protection Against External Light Interference

The XP20B D LC is designed to provide improved protection against interference caused by external light sources.

This is particularly useful around driveway entrances where the photocells may be exposed to:

  • Vehicle LED headlights
  • Strong artificial lighting
  • Changing outdoor lighting conditions

FAAC specifically identifies protection from interference caused by external light sources, including vehicle LED headlights, as a feature of the XP20B BUS 2easy system.

🧠 Addressable BUS Safety Device

Unlike a conventional relay-output photocell, the XP20B D LC operates as an addressable device on the FAAC BUS 2easy network.

DIP switches within the photocells are used to assign their BUS address and therefore determine the safety function they perform.

The transmitter and receiver forming one pair must be configured with matching DIP-switch settings.

This provides greater flexibility when configuring more complex automation systems with multiple safety devices.

🔢 Multiple Safety Beam Pairs

FAAC BUS 2easy allows multiple pairs of compatible photocells to operate on the same BUS network.

FAAC specifies that the XP20B system can accommodate up to 16 pairs of photocells on the same system.

This makes the system particularly useful for more complex installations requiring multiple protected areas around a gate or automatic entrance.

Each pair must be correctly addressed according to the requirements of the control board and installation.

🚧 Opening & Closing Protection

Because each pair of XP20B D LC photocells can be assigned a BUS address, they can perform different safety functions within the same automation system.

For example, one pair may be installed across the driveway to protect the closing movement while another pair is positioned to monitor an area affected by the gate during opening.

FAAC’s addressing system provides dedicated configurations for closing, opening and combined opening/closing safety functions.

🌧️ Designed for Outdoor Installation

The XP20B D LC is designed as a surface-mounted photocell suitable for typical outdoor gate automation environments.

Its compact housing provides IP54 protection, helping protect the internal electronics against dust and water exposure associated with normal outdoor installations.

FAAC specifies an operating temperature range of:

  • -20°C to +55°C

📐 Compact Surface-Mount Design

The XP20B D LC features a slim surface-mounted enclosure suitable for mounting directly to gate posts, walls and other appropriate surfaces.

The photocell dimensions are approximately:

  • Height: 130mm
  • Width: 41.5mm
  • Depth: 42.5mm

Its narrow profile allows the photocells to be installed discreetly on many residential and commercial gate systems.

⚡ Low-Consumption LC Design

The LC version is designed as a low-consumption evolution of the XP20B photocell platform.

The BUS arrangement provides efficient communication and power distribution while retaining the simple two-wire connection associated with FAAC BUS 2easy.

This makes the XP20B D LC particularly suitable for modern FAAC automation systems using BUS-connected accessories.

🔧 Ideal for New & Existing FAAC Systems

The XP20B D LC can be used when installing a new compatible FAAC automation system or when replacing or expanding safety equipment on an existing BUS 2easy installation.

Typical applications include:

  • New FAAC gate installations
  • Adding safety beams to an existing gate
  • Replacing damaged photocells
  • Adding additional protected areas
  • Upgrading existing safety equipment
  • Commercial and residential gate automation

The control board must provide a compatible FAAC BUS 2easy connection.

🔄 Replacement for XP20B D – 785103

Part No. 785120 is the newer XP20B D LC version of the FAAC BUS 2easy adjustable photocell.

It supersedes the earlier XP20B D, Part No. 785103, while retaining the BUS 2easy two-wire operating principle. Current listings identify 785120 as the replacement for the earlier 785103 version.

This makes the 785120 particularly relevant when replacing an older XP20B D photocell installation.
